Basingstoke Town Ladies will be going for glory next month, having secured a place in the Hampshire Women’s Cup Final by defeating Solent Ladies in the recent semi-final.
The game took place in Test Park and Basingstoke went into it as the firm favourites, but the early stages of the match proved to be fast and furious without much real goalmouth action.
However, as half time approached, Basingstoke grabbed the all-important opening goal – scored by Lindsey Beverly from a cross provided by Josette Pearmine. This saw the team from the Southern Region Premier Division go into the interval with the advantage.
The initial stages of the second half were scrappy, as neither side succeeded in carving out any real opportunities, but it was Basingstoke who made the breakthrough once again 10 minutes into the half.
This time it was Pearmine who grabbed the goal, and it was a remarkable shot from close to the pitch’s centre circle that stunned the goalkeeper from Solent, whose full stretch dive was in vain.
This second goal knocked much of the stuffing out of Solent, with Basingstoke taking complete control of the remainder of the match, without being able to score a third.
The final will be held April 13, and fans can use banner printing to ensure they have a way to show their support on occasions like this.
