Improvements planned for local golf club

A golf course in Basingstoke may be set for a series of upgrades, if the local council gives the go-ahead to proposals.

Weybrook Park Golf Club, which is located on Rooksdown Lane, has submitted Plans for the realignment and reconfiguration of its opening nine holes.

The borough council previously gave its approval to the scheme when a planning application was submitted over three years ago, but with the club having failed to complete the improvements during the allotted time, it has had to re-submit it.

Should approval be awarded again, the Plans would see several holes on the course changing position, a reconstruction of the greens and the building of a brand new green for practice putting.

Access to the course via the clubhouse would also be improved, along with the construction of a car park. In its application, the club states that, due to the restricted budget at the time, the opening nine holes do not currently meet the standards needed by visitors and members, adding:

“WPGC has a long-term vision to provide a high quality golf course equal to the best in Hampshire and has sought to improve and upgrade its facilities over the years.”

As with other local clubs, the WPGC can rely on brochure printers in Basingstoke to provide it with Brochures detailing its facilities and any upcoming events.

The council’s decision is expected in October.
