A pupil at the town’s Brighton Hill Community School, Joe Hubbard-Bateman, has won a place in the Dance World Cup for 2015, which will take place later this year in Jersey.
Joe recorded himself performing two dance pieces – including a ballet piece – and submitted them to the judging panel. This led to them selecting the youngster, who attends North Hampshire Academy of Dance, to compete for England.
Speaking to the Basingstoke Gazette, Joe stated that:
“I was so surprised when I got told I was dancing for England. It’s exciting, scary and I am a bit nervous to represent England but it’s going to be amazing.”
He added that he was already impressed by the standard of those he would be up against at the event, which lasts for seven days and will see over 4,000 entrants competing from 38 different nations.
Among the other countries that will have competitors at the Dance World Cup are Russia, South Africa and Argentina. People often make use of banner printing so that they can show their support for competitors at events of this kind.
The 2015 Dance World Cup will be held at St Hellier in the week beginning June 25th.
