Basingstoke hungry for new foodie fest

A new food festival is to take place in Basingstoke this Easter holiday, as the local council targets reviving the economy of the area.

In a bid to turn the old town into a more vibrant area for visitors and locals, poster printing for the 'Eat Street' event is likely already under way.

As well as free food, the event that will take place on London Street will see live cookery demonstrations, live music, cupcake making classes and a kids’ Easter trail. A town crier will be in attendance to showcase the event and support the efforts of local Print companies.

Talking about the event, Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council’s deputy leader, Ranil Jayawardena, said:

“This will be a great event for local businesses and families looking for something to do on the first weekend of the Easter school holidays.”

Councillor Jayawardena continued:

“We’re taking the action needed to turn ‘old Basingstoke’ into a more interesting and vibrant destination.”

As well as attracting more customers to come and spend in the area, it is hoped that the festival – the first of its kind to take place in the town – will encourage owners to work more closely together and generate greater levels of footfall.

The Eat Street festival will take place on Saturday, 12th April, running from 11am 'til 3pm.
