An overall transformation plan that includes this review was approved by the authority at the beginning of the year, and it could see council employees moved out of their base in the Parklands building so that it can be rented out. If this goes ahead, most of the councillors and other members of staff who work there would be moved to the Deane building.
Others would move into smaller office spaces, such as the one at Wade Road in Basingstoke. It is part of a plan for introducing greater remote and flexible working within the organisation, and would allow the council to raise money by renting Parklands.
This project would also see the Deane building given a makeover, at a cost of £1.2m. Local councils sometimes use Stationery printers in the area to meet their admin needs.
According to the Basingstoke Gazette, Councillor Ken Rhatigan stated:
“With falling income and rising costs, transforming the way the council works is the only way we can continue to provide services that our residents expect now and in the future.”
He added that the Plans would unite most councillors and employees under a single roof, making access to them easier for residents.
