Funding provided for Ashton-under-Lyne redevelopment plans

Funding has been secured for the redevelopment of the town centre in Ashton-under-Lyne.

This money has been provided by the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA). Ashton-under-Lyne is one of two areas that is receiving funding, with the other being Stalybridge. A total of £5.8 million has been divided between the two towns and it will be used to pay for a number of improvements.

Among them will be the creation of new routes for cyclists and road changes to make Ashton-under-Lyne safer for pedestrians. There will also be new trees, plants, seats and pavement surfaces added to the town centre.

This is not all that is planned though, as Tameside Council wants to create more public spaces too. These will be used for hosting live outdoor events and to give people safe areas to spend time.

The hope is that the changes will improve the centre of town for residents of Ashton-under-Lyne and business owners. Those who run local businesses sometimes use Print shops in Ashton-under-Lyne that supply Corporate Gifts to help attract clients.

Several parts of the town centre have been earmarked for redevelopment. They are Warrington Street, Market Avenue, Market Street and Fletcher Square. Ashton-under-Lyne is already undergoing regeneration, in the form of the Market Square project.

The improvement works in Stalybridge are underway. They are likely to begin in Ashton-under-Lyne before the end of this year.
