Transport improvements begin in Altrincham

An upgrade to Altrincham’s transport infrastructure is being implemented by local councils.

Two Altrincham roads are being closed to ordinary traffic while improvements to the local transport network are being introduced. The hope is that walking and cycling will take off with local residents.

Oldfield Lane and Oxford Road have been selected for work completion in the initial phase of the scheme. Resources for the project have come through Amey and Trafford Council. This partnership obtained over £360,000 from the combined authority for Greater Manchester.

Printing services are useful when there is a need to communicate with the public, especially when a significant disruption is happening.

The Cycling and Walking Commissioner for the city-region, Chris Boardman, said:

“This emergency funding has empowered Greater Manchester leaders to take immediate action and provide safe travel options for their residents to get to and from key areas.”

Mr Boardman pointed out that approximately one third of the people living within the boundaries of Greater Manchester do not have access to a car. He indicated that better transport links would be beneficial for everyone. If residents elect to walk to work, then there is likely to be more capacity in other parts of the network.

The head of Trafford Council, Andrew Western, is aspiring to promote wellbeing. When the outcomes of the current transport policy are clear, a consultation process shall take place.
