Indian restaurant to open near Altrincham
An Indian bar and restaurant is to open in the Altrincham area next month.
Raj Somaiya, an entrepreneur, is poised to launch a restaurant and bar on Ashley Road. The eatery will occupy a former bank that is located in the vicinity of Altrincham. GupShup means ‘conversation’ in Urdu and the old NatWest branch is going to be transformed. Somaiya told Altrincham Today:
Somaiya has something of a flamboyant reputation. He has featured in television shows like My Big Fat Asian Wedding and Real Housewives of Cheshire. With experience in wedding planning and Indian catering, he has the creativity to launch a concept restaurant.
GupShup is all about showcasing the diversity of Indian cuisine. People will be encouraged to try light food, but the hope is that customers will still enjoy traditional cooking if they have that preference. New businesses often use printing services to create promotional materials to encourage the public to visit upon opening.
The building to be used for the restaurant has been empty for more than two years. Securing planning permission was a lengthy process. A total of £1.5 million has been invested in the makeover of the space. Edwin Pickett, an experienced interior designer, has been involved in the necessary work. The opening of GupShup should create 21 jobs.

“We wanted to create a restaurant that offered not only the best, authentic Indian food but also a place where people could get together and enjoy each other’s company.”
