The under-15 cricket team for Altrincham Grammar School for Boys is competing in this year’s Barclays Knight-Stokes Cup. Their most recent match was the central versus north semi-final against Sir Thomas Rich’s School. This resulted in victory by 42 runs, and the team will now head to Lord’s Cricket Ground for the final.
The Barclays Knight-Stokes Cup is a cricket competition that is open to all UK state schools. This year marks its debut and more than 1,100 teams representing over 800 schools have taken part in it. This makes the performance of the team from Altrincham even more impressive.
When sports teams from the town are participating in finals, local people sometimes like to support them with Banners. Altrincham is home to banner printing outlets that can supply them.
Darren Birtwell works at Altrincham Grammar School as head of curriculum PE. Speaking to Messenger Newspapers, he said:
“Having a state school competition is enormously important – a lot of the big competitions around the country can be dominated by private schools, so having something like this is brilliant.”
The semi-final match was held at Headingley, which is another iconic cricket ground. The final at Lord’s is scheduled to take place on Thursday, 10 September.Get a Free Quote for Banners
