Altrincham air quality to improve in 2020
An Altrincham-led campaign is hoping to improve the local air quality during 2020.
A blood disease specialist, Dr Patrick Carrington is an Altrincham resident and he is hoping to get motorists to switch off their engines when they are waiting in queues at specific level crossings. Dr Carrington told Messenger Newspapers:
The doctor pointed out that air pollution is not simply responsible for lung problems. He mentioned that other health conditions can be caused or exacerbated by poor quality air. Dr Carrington also indicated that drivers can save money if they do not keep their engines running while their vehicles are stationary for significant periods of time.
Councillor Dan Jerrome represents Altrincham and he hopes that Trafford Borough Council can take swift action on the issue. A spokesperson for the council has defended its record on addressing air quality. A policy against engine idling is already in place. Printing services can be useful during the course of any campaign.
With regard to the level crossing dilemma, there will be a council meeting on Monday 27th January to discuss the topic. Campaigners are anxious about the alleged pollution problems in the vicinity of Deansgate Lane and Navigation Road.

“Car drivers don’t realise that they are also putting their own health at risk as the exhaust is sucked into their cars and concentrated so that their exposure increases.”
