The fundraiser is intended to be a light-hearted community event. Residents can purchase a warrant and nominate their friends, family or co-workers for a mock arrest. Warrants are suggested to be for humorous reasons such as household quirks or everyday annoyances. Participants will then be asked to raise bail money from their personal connections through donations.
The event is not partnering with police, with participants instead taken to a mock jail in the Families for Change organization where they can either stay and await bail or pose for a photo. Jail and Bail is intended to showcase the organization’s new building and raise money for renovations and supplies to help it support individuals with disabilities.
Fundraising events like this one often use methods like poster printing and social media to help attract participants and donors. Program co-ordinator Mariah Hornsnall describes the motivation for the event as:
“We wanted to make a fun way to spread the news about our new location and get the community involved with our fundraising.”
The Jail and Bail fundraiser will take place on July 3 at the Moose Jaw Families for Change building.
