Unique Hyprov show comes to Oakville

A new touring show, starring a Canadian comedy legend, looks to combine improvised comedy, typically known as ‘improv’, and hypnosis in what has suitably been dubbed “hyprov.” The show will be visiting Oakville at the end of the month.

Hyprov stars comedian Colin Mochrie and hypnotist Asad Mecci. The show will involve twenty members of the audience being hypnotized, and five being selected to perform improv with Mochrie. The goal is to unlock the uninhibited, hilarious part of the unconscious mind. Like all improv shows, it will involve sketches and jokes made up on the fly, perhaps after suggestions from the audience, meaning that each live show is completely unique.

Born in Scotland but calling Canada home, Mochrie is famous for starring in the long-running improv series ‘Whose Line Is it Anyway?’, appearing on the show across three decades, three networks and two countries. Mochrie has also appeared in Canadian TV shows like ‘This Hour Has 22 Minutes’ and ‘Kids in the Hall’. Whose Line has inspired numerous local improv troupes, performing shows regularly and advertising through brochure printing and Promotional Products.

Mecci is no stranger to show business himself, having appeared on programs like ‘Entertainment Tonight’ and been profiled in The New York Times for his hypnosis-based stage shows.

Mochrie and Mecci will perform “Hyprov” at the Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts on January 31.
