A touring event will be bringing a classic British sitcom to life in Oakville this summer, with a three-day presentation of Faulty Towers: The Dining Experience.
The original British series, spelled Fawlty Towers, starred John Cleese as the owner of a ramshackle hotel and aired in the 1970s. The dinner show brings back the characters of Basil, Sybil and Manuel to give viewers an in-person experience of being amidst the mix-ups and eccentricity of the show. Most of the experience is improvised, ensuring that each show is different.
Along with the two-hour show, attendees will receive a three-course meal, with chicken and vegan options available. The show is appropriate for all ages, with friends and family encouraged to purchase tickets together. Dinner theatre shows like this often use poster printing and social media to help attract locals looking for a unique experience.
Faulty Towers: The Dining Experience was created by Australian writer Alison Polland-Mansergh and first staged in 1997. Since then it has been performed in over 43 countries and garnered acclaim. The Oakville appearance is part of an international tour that also includes the United Kingdom and US, and is the only Ontario stop.
The Oakville production of Faulty Towers: The Dining Experience will run from July 31 to August 2 at the Holiday Inn Oakville Centre, including three dinner shows and a Saturday matinee.
