The annual Birmingham Bank Bed Challenge is coming to its conclusion with a race this May. It is presented by the Oakville Hospital Foundation and is a fundraising event that allows the Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial and Oakville Hospitals to purchase more patient beds.
The Bed Challenge is a month-long fundraiser that culminates in a ‘hospital bed race’ down Lakeshore Road between Dunn and Navy Streets. Since the race began, the foundation has raised over $1 million.
Local businesses are encouraged to take part in the race. Teams of at least five pay $500 to participate, and are also expected to raise an additional $250 in pledges. Beds can either be built by participants (following some rules) or provided by the organizers in advance of race day.
Advertisements are encouraged on the beds, and the company or organization name must be visible to the judges. Teams can choose what type of decorations to put on their beds, as long as they are tasteful and don't obscure the view of the pushers. It is possible that several of those planning to take part will be contacting their favourite Oakville banner printing company to design the perfect product to hang on their bed.
The Birmingham Bank Bed Challenge will take place on May 4th from 10:00am – 12:30pm. Call 905-338-4642 to find out more about the race.
