Traditional picnic to return to Oakville

Now back on its regular annual schedule, the Mayor’s Historical Picnic will be returning to Oakville this June.

The event is hosted by the Oakville Historical Society and designed to highlight traditional Canadian culture. Visitors are encouraged to bring their own lunch and picnic basket and enjoy the entertainment and ambiance. The Dixie Land Band and Oakville Wind Orchestra will be playing at the Picnic. Visitors can also enjoy the performances of the Goggin-Stewart Irish dancers, a stilt walker, and other traditional clowns and entertainers. Younger attendees can participate in face painting, games, a balloon artist, and more, with the event aiming to be welcome to family and individuals of all ages from across the Oakville area.

The Picnic made its official return last year, following a three-year absence for public health reasons between 2020 and 2022. Last year’s event also included the debut of a model train exhibit. The event is designed to encourage people to explore downtown Oakville, including nearby restaurants that can provide food for those who do not want to bring their own. Picnics and outdoor festivals are a popular way to encourage people to get outside and build a sense of community during the summer months, and they are often advertised through methods such as flyer printing and word of mouth.

The 2024 Oakville Mayor’s Historical Picnic will take place during the afternoon of June 9 at Lakeside Park.
