The Oakville Santa Claus Parade is returning to the city this November, with organizers preparing to mark 65 years of the event.
Those behind the parade have encouraged families to come out and make the most of the occasion, which has a theme of ‘celebration’. Both commercial and community organizations are eligible to participate; costs are $150 for commercial companies and $50 for community groups or schools.
Everything related to the theme is acceptable in the parade, although none of the floats should include Santa Claus himself.
Those taking part are set to compete for several awards, with titles being given for the best overall entry, school, mascot, walking group, and band. There will also be a People's Choice prize.
The best overall float will receive a cash prize of $500; it is expected that commercial winners will donate their prize winnings to their favorite charity while non-profits can keep it for their own organization.
Two judging stations will be set up along the route, so all participants will have a chance to be seen.
Local printing companies often supply events with printed Banners to either hang on floats or to be held by marching groups. A large colorful banner will make sure that everyone knows the name of the group.
The Oakville Santa Claus Parade is taking place on Saturday, beginning at 9:00am. The parade travels from Lakeshore Road, East along Kerr Street and Stewart Street before ending up at Felan Avenue. To find out more about the parade activities, call 905-815-5981.
