Outdoor movies to return to Oakville this summer

The town of Oakville has announced the line-up for this year’s edition of Movies in the Park, which lets residents enjoy family-friendly flicks in an outdoor environment.

The weekly series runs through July and August, and will begin with a showing of Jumanji. The series will include classic family films like Homeward Bound, Matilda and E. T., as well as a showing of Star Wars: The Force Awakens at the end of July. Each event will be hosted in a different ward, with venues including Oakville Trafalgar Park, Sixteen Hollow Park, and Munn’s Creek Park. Attendees are encouraged to bring picnic blankets or lawn chairs and refreshments to spread out on the grass and enjoy the films.

The film series will also include games and activities for young visitors before the movie begins. The Oakville Public Library’s Library on the Go bicycle will be present to let people check out Books at the park, and children can also meet Oakville firefighters and their mascot Sparky, who will be teaching people how to be fire safe. Municipal governments often organize events like this to encourage community and outdoor activity during the summer, using poster printing and social media to help get the word out.

The Oakville Movies in the Park series will run every Wednesday from July 10 to August 21 at locations throughout Oakville.
