One of Oakville’s most popular athletic and charity events will be a little different this year, as organizers have announced the annual Terry Fox Run will adopt a virtual format when it is held this fall.
The event is typically held as a massive run in Oakville’s Coronation Park. Runners pledge to run a certain distance, and raise money for Cancer Research. Walking, biking and other Forms of transportation are also possible pledges. The Oakville race had its best year in 2019, raising $196,011 for the Terry Fox Foundation. Organizers are hopeful that they will be able to continue this momentum, even without the mass gathering.
The exact format for the virtual run will be announced in the months ahead, but it will likely involve online fundraising and individuals or families running in areas around their homes. The run, like others across Canada and worldwide, is inspired by Terry Fox’s 1980 Marathon of Hope, where he ran from St. John’s to Thunder Bay on a prosthetic leg, the equivalent of a full marathon every day. Fox stopped in Oakville on July 13, where his memory is still felt to this day. Charity runs like these are often advertised through poster printing campaigns.
The virtual Oakville Terry Fox run will take place on September 20, along with other Terry Fox events around the world.Get a Free Quote for Forms
