The city of Oakville will have some of its community leaders honoured at the local YMCA’s Breakfast for Peace this November. Selected invitees will be presented with a Peace Medal as a recognition for their working in creating a more peaceful world.
The breakfast will also feature a talk by Maggie Doyne, founder of the BlinkNow institute. Doyne is known for her work educating and empowering children and women in Nepal. She is also a renowned speaker who has presented all over the world. Doyne will tell her story at the Oakville event along with the lessons she’s learned about how people from ordinary backgrounds can make a difference in the world.
The breakfast is part of Peace Week, an annual event celebrated by YMCA organisations across Canada. The event normally sees over a hundred attendees. Individuals and groups can be nominated online by community members, with nominations open until next Wednesday, October 16. In addition to honouring those who make a difference, award events like these can often bring community leaders together. They are often hosted on a local scale, using brochure printing and flyer printing, along with the internet, to get the word out.
The 2019 edition of the Oakville YMCA Breakfast for Peace will take place on the morning of November 20 at the Oakville Conference and Banquet Centre.
