The City of Oakville has announced plans for its annual Canada Day celebrations, marking the holiday through an evening-long event.
The evening will create a festival-like atmosphere with food trucks, an arts and crafts zone, a sports area, and booths from local vendors and organization. Balletomane Hip Hop and Ballet will provide an interactive performance to get the crowd moving. Headlining the evening’s musical festivities will be local rock cover band The Lonely Hearts. The night’s main event, however, will be an extensive fireworks display kicking off at 10PM, weather permitting. Special Oakville Transit shuttles will run from the Bronte GO station to the event location throughout the evening, with the return trip free.
Oakville’s Canada Day event will also acknowledge Indigenous culture in multiple ways, including an official pipe and drum welcome and land acknowledgement with Elijah M. Williams, director of Indigenous Engagement at Sheridan College. There will also be an Indigenous reflective area set up throughout the evening. Festive events like this can provide an opportunity for local businesses or organizations to interact directly with people, often using colourful sign or banner printing to gain attention. Canada Day in particular is cause for civic celebrations in large and small municipalities across the country.
The City of Oakville’s Canada Day celebration will take place at Bronte Heritage Waterfront Park on July 1.
