The Burloak Theatre Group will be bringing some modern drama to Oakville this January with its four-night production of Susan Miller’s play ‘20th Century Blues’.
The play follows the story of four women who meet once a year for a photo shoot, and how their lives and personalities change over time, as well as what happens when their photos are at risk of being exposed. 20th Century Blues became acclaimed for its sharp wit and serious treatment of themes, and fits into playwright Miller’s long career, which has included prize-winning works like ‘My Left Breast’ and ‘Nasty Rumors and Final Remarks’.
The Oakville performance of the play will be presented by the Burloak Theatre Group, which features local talent from throughout Oakville, Burlington and surrounding areas. The play will be directed by Michelle Righetti and produced by Michelle Charles and Cheryl Cartwright. 20th Century Blues is part of the group’s 2023-24 season, which will also include a production of the SpongeBob Musical in April. Troupes such as this help to make everything from family-friendly musicals to cutting-edge drama accessible to local communities, often using poster printing or social media to help attract audiences.
The Burloak Theatre Group production of 20th Century Blues will be performed five times, with evening shows from January 18 to 20 and matinees on the 20th and 21st. All performances will take place at the Liebherr Auditorium at the Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts.
