Oakville theatre to stage two classic plays

Oakville’s West End Studio Theatre troupe will be presenting its own take on two iconic scripts this September, with 12 Angry Men and Trojan Women on back-to-back weekends.

Both productions will be directed by Yo Mustafa and star local actors selected through auditions. 12 Angry Men is a reprise of an earlier rendition of the famous script set entirely in a jury room for a murder trial, brought back for a limited engagement to launch the new season. The play, originally written for TV by Reginald Rose, has been adapted into two feature films as well as a stage edition due to its dialogue-heavy nature.

Following 12 Angry Men will be a modern adaptation of Euripides’ ancient Greek tragedy The Trojan Women, which stars four female victims of the Trojan War. The four-day staging will include four evening performances and two weekend matinees. The two plays will launch West End Studio Theatre’s 2024-25 series, which will also include performances of Waiting for the Parade and Vanya, Sonia, Masha & Spike. The group uses striking graphic design and social media clips to help promote its upcoming productions.

12 Angry Men will be staged on September 13 and 14, while Trojan Women will run from the 19th to the 22nd. All shows will take place at the Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts.
