Oakville Symphony announces new season with guest conductors

The Oakville Symphony has announced the details of its 2021-22 season, which will feature a unique set of guest conductors as the group looks for a new leader.

The season will consist of eight concerts, with four guests conducting two shows each. Roberto De Clara will be concluding his 24-year run with the Symphony this June, and a new Conductor and Music Director will fill his position on a permanent basis at the start of the 2022-23 season. The symphony hopes that these concerts will also see their return to live performances before an in-person audience, after a year of virtual concerts and presentations.

Martin MacDonald, Resident Conductor of Symphony Nova Scotia, will be the first guest conductor to take the stand. Following him will be Patrick Gandhi, Music Director of the Rouge River Winds and Conductor of the Toy Piano Composers Ensemble; Lorenzo Guggenheim, Founder of the University of Toronto Campus Philharmonic Orchestra; and Genevieve Leclaire, Assistant Professor of Conducting at Berklee College of Music. Orchestral performances like this offer a classical alternative to the musical mainstream, often raising awareness using methods like social media or poster printing.

The 2021-22 season of the Oakville Symphony will kick off on November 6 and 7, with two performances conducted by MacDonald, and conclude with Leclair’s pair of concerts on May 7 and 8, 2022. The Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts will host all the concerts.
