Oakville small business campaign launches

The Oakville Chamber of Commerce has launched a new promotional effort to encourage shopping at local businesses.

The “Love Local” campaign will deploy a large public art installation to different shopping districts in Oakville such as Bronte Village, Kerr Oakville and Downtown Oakville. Chris Mei of Oakville-based The Weather Network will participate in a video campaign. The chamber will also use social media to spread the word and feature local businesses.

Throughout the coronavirus pandemic, the organization encouraged Oakville residents to buy Gift Certificates, take-out orders and curbside purchases from small businesses. It has also run a workplace self-screening program for COVID, free for local businesses with up to 150 employees.

Love Local will include promotional giveaways with specialized Promotional Products such as sweatshirts, toques and Totes. The goal is to help local businesses during what is typically a slower commercial period between the end of summer and the beginning of holiday shopping.

The chamber also provides an online directory of locally owned businesses in Oakville’s major shopping centres, often with promotional codes for discounts. Like similar organizations across North America, it aims to connect small businesses and entrepreneurs with each other and encourage economic growth.

The Oakville Chamber of Commerce’s Love Local campaign is expected to run throughout the fall, both through physical installations and social media, such as Facebook and Instagram.
