Oakville player named lacrosse All-American

Oakville native and midfielder Jonathan Donville is making waves in American college lacrosse, having recently been named to the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) 2022 Preseason Media All-American team.

The award recognizes the players who the media expects will make the biggest impact during the 2022 season, and it is awarded by USILA. Donville was one of five Maryland Terrapins selected, and received Third Team honours.

Donville previously established himself on Cornell University’s team, where he won All-American Second Team distinction during the 2021 season, before transferring to powerhouse Maryland for his last season of eligibility in the American National Collegiate Athletic Association.

There are only nine slots for midfielders on the all-American list, three for each team. In addition to recognition, such awards can help to develop players’ reputations before they enter the professional ranks. Donville has already been drafted by the National Lacrosse League’s Panther City LC, where he went first overall in the 2021 entry draft. NCAA lacrosse, however, is still frequently considered the most popular level of the sport, with local media coverage and banner printing among the tools used to draw big crowds to games.

Jonathan Donville was named to the USILA 2022 Pre-Season All-American team on February 1. He will compete during the NCAA regular season, running from February to April, followed by the national championship tournament.
