The spin on tradition will include a performance by Loco Zydeco, playing the Louisiana-born music style that blends the American blues with Caribbean Creole musical styles. This will be Loco Zydeco’s final show at this location, and they are looking to go out with a bang. The group will bring extra washboards so that participants from the audience can join in and try their hand at this musical style.
Marketing material describes the six-piece group, headed up by Rob Urquhart on lead vocals and harmonica and Kristine Kane on rubboard, as a unique musical hybrid:
“Winning over enthusiastic crowds with an energetic blend of contemporary and traditional Zydeco, LZ has created a unique take on Louisiana's most exciting musical export, in all it's toe-tapping, hip-shaking glory.”
For an added fee, attendees can also sample Cajun favourites such as jambalaya and cornbread, with the former known for its spicy flavour – all the better to match the spicy music. The show is part of the Moonshine Cafe’s efforts to bring daily concerts in a wide variety of genres to Oakville. Concerts like this often use methods like flyer printing and radio promotion to attract music lovers looking to try something new.
Mardi Gras in October will take place at the Moonshine Cafe on the evening of October 5.
