Oakville orchestra to host free shows

The Oakville Wind Orchestra will be playing a series of free outdoor shows this summer, encouraging individuals to get out and enjoy the sights and sounds of summer.

The Orchestra describes itself as Canada’s oldest community concert band, dating back to 1866, and performs a variety of classical and contemporary tunes. The group will also be joined by other musicians, orchestra and ensembles at various times. The Orchestra currently consists of dozens of musicians playing instruments ranging from clarinets to tubas to hand drums, conducted by Chris Arthurs. The group decides their goal as promoting community togetherness, with the website saying:
“In concert with like-minded individuals and organizations, we strive to make Oakville a great place to live, work and visit – for all. Join us on our musical journey through the ages.”

The Summer Series is one of the most popular events in the Orchestra’s annual schedule, and makes up over half of its shows in a year. Attendees are welcome to bring blankets, chairs, and refreshments to fully enjoy the family-friendly show. Outdoor concert series like this are a popular summer attraction, often promoted through local flyer printing and radio advertising, and can help to acknowledge area musicians.

The Oakville Wind Orchestra’s 2025 Summer Series will take place under the gazebo at Bronte Heritage Waterfront Park on every Tuesday from July 8 to August 12.
