Men throughout Oakville are being asked to don a pair of fancy pink heels and strut their stuff to help raise money for a local charity.
The 6th annual Hope in High Heels will see men and boys from across the city walk to help improve awareness about domestic violence, while raising funds to help support Halton Women’s Place. According to event organizers, last year over $90,000 was collected for the not for profit, and the goal for this year is $100,000.
According to the development manager with Halton Women’s Place, the walk lets men know that they can be part of the solution to the problem and that it is not just a woman’s issue, but everyone’s. A firm that provides poster printing services could produce decorations for the event, as well as Brochures that give more information about the issue.
The funds raised will be used to augment those they receive form the government.
The event will take place in both Oakville and Burlington. The Oakville walk will take place in Centennial Square starting at 10 a.m. on September 27th. Once they register, those who participate will be issues their pink heels. After that, there will be discussions about violence against women. The actual walk won’t be very long, though for those who are not used to high heels, it may feel like a marathon. A free lunch will be provided to those who take part.
