Recently, thousands of people from the GTA came out for the TD Downtown Oakville Jazz Festival, where they were treated to a variety of performances by artists form Canada and around the world.
Well-known organist Dr. Lonnie Smith helped to start things off with a festive air when he and his band, The DR. Lonnie Smith Trio, took to the TD Town Square Stage on opening night.
The free two-day festival featured a variety of music styles, including swing, blues, ragtime, acid, Latin, fusion, and world. There was something for every musical taste.
Canadian Alysha Brilla was one of the feature performers. Her works can be heard on such television shows as Degrassi: The Next Generation and also King. She completed her first full-length album in 2013, and was nominated for a Juno award.
Also on hand to give a performance was the well-known jazz orchestra Manteca. They have toured the world with a several famous performers, and were presented with a Juno award for their music. They released their 11th studio album last year.
