Oakville fundraiser to hit the dance floor

This November will see the return of the Oakville & Milton Humane Society’s “Prancing with the Stars” gala, with local people encouraged to cut a rug.

The gala includes a meal and silent auction, similar to other charity events, but also adds a reality TV-style dancing competition. Six local residents will partner with professional dancers to compete for bragging rights. Each participant has committed to raising $7,000 for the no-kill animal shelter, which says it is in urgent need of support. This will be the first in-person edition of Prancing with the Stars since 2019. Silent auction items are provided by local businesses and organizations looking to contribute to the cause while also raising awareness.

Prancing with the Stars is the main fundraiser of the Humane Society, which relies entirely on individual and corporate donations. Events such as these can be crucial to nonprofit organizations’ operations, and are often advertised by tools such as social media and poster printing. The Humane Society provides for abandoned dogs and cats until they can be adopted, including long-term care of animals with behavioural issues. The group’s mission statement reads:

“We are dedicated to protecting and making life better for animals and connecting the communities that care about them in Oakville and Milton.”

The 2022 edition of Prancing with the Stars is set to take place at the Oakville Conference Centre on November 3.
