Oakville exhibits to showcase Canadian artists

Oakville Galleries will be opening a pair of exhibits dedicated to the work of contemporary Canadian artists Karen Kraven and Kristian Horton, featuring a wide variety of media.

Kraven’s exhibit will be “Bloemenlust”, inspired by gardening and the cycle of life. The work draws its name from a historic Dutch floral auction, and aims to highlight both the beauty and social challenges of the global flower trade. Kraven’s artistic work includes media like textile creations, fashion, sculpture, and photography. The gallery’s promotional material emphasizes these themes and their ties to Kraven’s family roots:

“Accessing her familial background in fashion and textiles and accumulating the surplus possessions and fabric scraps that drift in the periphery of the body, her work defoliates, lingers, eventually propagating.”

Running alongside Bloemenlust will be “None of This Is in My Mind”, a large Print by Horton. The work is created with black ink on kraft paper , and also deals with themes of labour and materiality, complementing Kraven’s work. Kraven and Horton have both been repeatedly featured at galleries in Ontario and throughout Canada. Artists often use printing services to create visual works like this, showcasing the versatility of paper and ink.

Bloemenlust and None of This Is in my Mind will be on display at Oakville Galleries from February 22 to May 5, 2025.
