Oakville exhibition to express holiday joy

Oakville’s Summer & Grace gallery will showcase the hopeful side of Canadian art with its Season of Joy juried competition this December.

The holiday event will see submissions from artists across the country put on display. Artists have been encouraged to submit work on the theme of “joy”. Selected entries will be put on display, with a jury evaluating which work is best. The top artwork will receive $4,000, with smaller prizes available for runners-up, as well as a $500 bonus to be chosen by the Mayor of Oakville. The work will then be on display for the remainder of the month, with gallery-goers able to buy work at prices set by the artist. The exhibition is focused on traditional artistic media such as acrylic, oil and watercolour painting, although mixed media works are accepted.

Proceeds from the exhibit will go towards Wellspring Cancer Support. The national organization provides programs to help cancer patients cope with their physical and emotional struggle. Juried art competitions provide opportunities for artists, as well as a chance for gallery-goers to see fresh work, with the exhibits often advertised using flyer printing and social media. The top two artists in the Season of Joy competition will also receive the opportunity to have a solo exhibit at the Summer & Grace Gallery in 2023.

The Season of Joy competition paintings will be on display at the Summer & Grace Gallery from December 2 to 24. A Preview Sale and Awards Night will be held on December 1, with attendance by invitation only.
