The Oakville Curling Club will be holding its annual “Annie” bonspiel this January, raising money to support breast cancer awareness.
The one-day event will see participating women’s teams playing two games, with a catered lunch in between. The meet will include other refreshments in the form of coffee and pre- and post-game snacks. The competition is open to local quartets and curling clubs. Awards will go out at the end to the best performers on and off the ice, with cash prizes available for the top finishers. A portion of the proceeds from registration fees, as well as a raffle hosted during the event, will go towards breast cancer research charities.
The Annie event is named after the titular doll that appears on the promotional Posters and other marketing, and is supported by the Club’s Day Women group and community sponsors. Poster printing is often undertaken in advance of such events.
The event aims to highlight women’s curling and provide new opportunities. This year’s event will be the first to use the “thinks pink” theme and support breast cancer awareness. It is one of several charity and invitational bonspiels that the Club hosts throughout the curling season. More details of the competition format and surrounding events will be released in the lead-up to the bonspiel.
The Annie Thinks Pink Bonspiel will take place during the morning and afternoon of January 22, 2025 at the Oakville Curling Club.
