The season finale for the Oakville Chamber Orchestra’s concert series, originally set for this April, will still be taking place, but has been postponed until later in the year.
The concert will be called “Upbeat!”, after the jazz-based new composition by Maestro Demuynck, which will make its debut at the show. The rest of the program will consist of long-time favourites from audience members, including the overtures from Hebrides and The Barber of Seville. Pianist Jason Cheng will perform Chopin’s Concerto #1 and soprano Anna Wojcik will sing The Nightingale alongside arias from Handel and Mozart.
“Upbeat!” will be the finale of a season that saw shows like “4 Elements & 4 Seasons”, “The Fun Classics” and “Beethoven & Friends.” Concerts like this, sometimes marketed through flyer printing and brochure printing, help make classical music accessible to a modern audience. The season also saw the orchestra’s annual competition for youth performers, with the senior category won by violinist Emily Bosenius and the junior by cellist Sophie Van Der Sloot. The Orchestra has been in existence for over 30 years and has steadily grown in size, winning converts to its musical vision with the help of local donors and funding.
The Oakville Chamber Orchestra’s presentation of “Upbeat!” was originally set to premiere on April 25 at St. Simon’s, but was postponed due to government instructions. A make-up date will be announced later.
