Oakville celebrates Black History Month

February is Black History Month, and there are several events taking place in Oakville this year to acknowledge it.

The month will start off with the kick-off celebration at Oakville Town Hall, which is a presentation of the Canadian Caribbean Association of Halton (CCAH). Among the activities taking place during the evening will be performances by spoken word artist Greg Frankson (who uses the pseudonym ‘Ritalin’) and contemporary dance from Ballet Creole.

The date to note in the diary for this one is February 5, from 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm. Admission is free. To learn more about this, call the CCAH at 905-257-0908.

Later in the month, Oakville Public Library is showing the movie ‘Seeking Salvation: a History of the Black church in Canada’ on February 25 from 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm. Tickets are $5 per person.

The Oakville Museum also has two permanent art exhibitions to celebrate Black history in the area. These are ‘Freedom, Opportunity and Family’ which features artifacts, pictures, and text and ‘Underground Railroad: Next Stop to Freedom’, which is a multi-media exhibit.

The museum is open from Tuesday through Sunday and admission is free, although donations are gratefully accepted. To learn more about the ongoing exhibitions here, call 905-338-4400.

Organizers of these kinds of events very often invest in printing services in Oakville to spread the word. This can include Flyers and Posters to help advertise them in the community. Both can be distributed quickly and for very little cost.
