Local United Way celebrates excellent year

The United Way of Oakville recently hosted an event to celebrate an outstanding year of fundraising.

The celebration, which was held at Oakville Conference Center, took place to not only announce that the 2014 fundraising goal had been surpassed, but also to thank all those who worked hard to help.

The goal that had been set was to raise $4 million, but between the combined efforts of all the companies, organizations, and individual who took part, $4.25 million was generated.

More than a dozen Spirit Awards were handed out to those who put in an extra effort, and a special mention was made for all the hard work of the management and staff at Ford’s Oakville assembly plant. Between the staff at the corporate headquarters for Ford Canada, the Staff at the Oakville assembly plant, and the members of Unifor Local 707, they managed to raise $738,000. For this, the United Way recognized their work as being the Campaign of the Year.

The MPP for Oakville was also on hand to congratulate all those who put in such hard work, and to thank them for everything they have done to help make their community a great place to live.
