“Choir! Choir! Choir!”, an interactive singing group, will be performing in Oakville this February with what is being described as an “Epic 80’s Singalong”.
The group is headed up by creative directors Daveed Goldman and Nobu Adilman, a Toronto-based duo that wanted to put together choral performances without auditions or exclusivity. At a Choir! Choir! Choir! show, the audience makes up the choir, with the pair teaching original arrangements to amateur performers. Promotional material stresses the goal of empowering audience members:
“Choir! Choir! Choir! exists to celebrate music and push the boundaries between practice and performance, artist and audience, offering therapeutic benefits with the ultimate side effect: a powerful community.”
The Oakville performance will be focused on choral arrangements of pop and rock hits from the 1980s, and will end with a video recording for participants. The Choir! Choir! Choir! group was founded in 2011 as a weekly drop-in singing event and has since been performed on major stages around the world with accompaniment by several major musical acts. Concerts and choir events such as this, often promoted through everything from poster printing to viral social media videos, can be a popular way to experience familiar songs in a new environment.
The Oakville performance of Choir! Choir! Choir! will take place on the evening of February 18 at the AEG Liebherr Auditorium of the Oakville Centre.
