Ford hiring at Oakville plant

Ford Motor Company, which currently employs 5,500 people in the area, recently made an announcement that could mean 400 new jobs for Oakville.

The company revealed that it is officially launching the production of its new Edge SUV crossover. The vehicle is going to be built in Canada, and is intended for Canadian, US and other world markets.

These will be in addition to the 1,000 new ones that were created by Ford at the Oakville plant back in October. The firm also invested $700 million into the facility. A poster printing company will be able to provide any new signage and other items that such an expansion may require. These can be printed to suit the exact needs and specifications of the company.

According to Ford, the plans are for the vehicle to be shipped to more than 100 countries all over the globe, including some in Europe. It was designed in North America and will also be produced there.

A company representative remarked that up until now, most cars and trucks that were sold in Europe were designed in Europe. It was also noted that demand for sport utility type vehicles has risen dramatically in the past few years.

The Oakville plant was first opened in 1953, and currently produces the Ford Flex. Besides the Edge, it is also scheduled to start production of the 2016 Lincoln MKX in 2015.
