The all-woman Girls’ Nite Out comedy troupe will be performing a special live-streamed show on an Oakville stage this September.
The show is expected to feature both stand-up comedy and improvised humour with suggestions from the audience. The group is headed up by Elvira Kurt, who hosted PopCultured on the Comedy Channel and regularly appears on CBC’s Q radio show and across television. Other performers in the group include Lauren Ash from the sitcom Superstore, Laurie Elliott, Kristeen von Hagen and Ashley Bottling. No exact line-up has been announced for the Oakville performance.
The Girls Nite Out event is part of the Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts’ live-stream series, which brings artists of all types to the Oakville stage for digital streams. The series has featured artists like Canadian rock mainstays Whitehorse, the comedic play CHILD-ish and dance film Tessel.
The show was originally scheduled for earlier this year, but it was postponed, along with other events due to public health measures. Comedians have had to adapt to the structure of virtual live streams, typically promoted through social media alongside time-tested tools like flyer printing, learning how to respond to a live chat instead of an in-person audience.
Girls Nite Out is set to perform on the Oakville Centre stage on September 18, with the event being streamed through the Centre’s website.
