Advertise your art with the Oakville Brochure Rack Program

Artists are often not very good at advertising their talents to the general public; they sometimes think that you just need to get a gallery show or open your own store and the people will come. However, in order to let the general public know about their amazing talents they need to do some marketing to get their name out.

With that in mind, the Oakville Arts Council (OAC) owns and maintains a number of brochure racks throughout the city. The Brochure Rack Program allows members of the Council to get the word out to those who might not be aware of their art. Several brochure racks are located at prime Oakville locations such as the Oakville Place Shopping Centre, Sheridan ITAL, Hopedale Mall, the Oakville Public Library and CJ’s Café. Local printing companies can help the artist design a brochure, a flyer, a poster or a postcard that will jump right out at passers-by and help to get their art known in the city; this is the most economical way to advertise.

The Oakville Arts Council has final say on what materials will be displayed in the brochure racks, most of the racks are refilled in the 1st week of every month and materials must be sturdy enough to stand up in the racks. Artists drop off their promotional items at the OAC on Mondays or Thursdays only and they recommend that materials not be more than 8.5” x11”.

Many of the locations involved in the Brochure Rack Program are high-traffic areas, which makes the chance of someone picking up a brochure very good. It can be the most effective way an artist has of showing the public what he or she has to offer.
