Thanksgiving play coming to Milton this weekend

Milton’s theater lovers, both young and old, are invited to attend a performance of A Nice Family Gathering this weekend. The play is being produced by the Milton Players.

Set at a family gathering on American Thanksgiving Day, the play deals with all the complexities of the interactions of a typical family learning how to find their way at the first family function after the death of the patriarch.

The dinner takes place 10 months after the passing of the father, who returns as a ghost to have one final chance to tell his wife of 41 years that he loves her.

With a cast who have been practicing their parts since mid-February, the play takes a humorous yet poignant look at family values and the reality that many adult children face after the death of a parent.

Geoff Ford, a resident of Mississauga, has been cast in the role of the father, and he notes how much practice it took for the other actors and actresses not to look at him while he moved about the set. Since his character is that of a ghost, the other characters would not be able to see him, but he was difficult to ignore.

A Print company produced the programs for the play, which will be performed this Friday, Saturday and Sunday and again the following weekend. Performances take place at 2:00pm and again at 8:00pm. Tickets are $27 and can be purchased from the Milton Center for the Arts theater box office.
