Spring Safety Campaign Comes to Milton and Halton

As the temperatures heat up, some drivers unfortunately lose their sense of safety. The Halton region’s annual Spring Seatbelt campaign is helping to remind drivers in the Milton area that too many happy hour cocktails or beer during playoffs can have disastrous repercussions.

The Annual Seatbelt Campaign takes place during the month of April, from April 14-22, helping the mark the 36th anniversary since Ontario’s seatbelt law was enacted in 1976.

All three of the Halton and Milton district units, including uniform patrol officers and volunteers will be involved in the campaign which will crack down on offenders and remind all drivers of the importance of safety.

The campaign may involve the help of Print companies, who can publish billboard printings of disturbing statistics related to accident fatalities in the Milton area. Poster printings may also be helpful in reminding parents of the importance and use of proper restraints, child car seats and booster seats. The Ministry of Transportation also provides public child car seat installation videos to parents who need instructions on how to correctly secure a car seat.

While 95% of Ontarians buckle up according to surveys, according to Transport Canada, car crashes are the leading cause of death and injury related death among children.

Printed advertisements can also remind drivers of the consequences of failing to properly strap in children- the Highway Traffic Act imposes a fine of $200 - $1,000 for failing to install a car seat properly or failing to wear a seatbelt, along with two licence demerit points.
