Preventing child abuse in October

The community of Milton is working hard to protect children from all Forms of abuse and has designated October as Child Abuse Prevention Month. This month, local residents can show their support against abuse by sporting purple ribbons and helping the many social workers, community groups and professionals prevent child abuse in Milton, Halton Region, and communities across Ontario. Local printing companies may also have an important role to play in producing flyer printing and brochure printing on behalf of the Halton Children’s Aid Society.

Members involved also include Halton Regional Police across the regions of Milton, Burlington, Oakville and Halton Hills, as well as Halton Children’s Aid Society staff situated at schools and other places to help further the organization’s positive results.

Protection workers are also inviting the public to get involved in other initiatives to help lower income households and halt abuse, such as the Food for Life Action program, which provides food to needy families.

The Society’s community-based model and partnership with local schools provides plenty of advertising opportunities for local printing companies to create brochure, flyer, or posting printing in local schools and community centres to create awareness about abuse, towards both children and adults.

The community-based model has also been similarly adopted by five of 47 other children’s aid societies in the province. It investigated 2,238 concerns of abuse in 2011 and provided services to 5,800 needy children and youth in 2011.

The goal of the campaign is to eradicate child abuse entirely and also to extend the Children’s Aid Foundation of Halton to provide youths with important life skills education.
