When the provincial Government made the announcement that it was looking to expand or build new university campuses in areas of the province that were underserved by higher education, the town of Milton was ready to jump on board.
The town has lent its support to Sir Wilfred Laurier University in submitting a proposal to the Government for assistance in building a Milton campus.
Milton has already been working with the university since 2008 on plans to build a 150 acre campus in Education Village.
The mayor noted that this would play a big part in helping to build a town that prospers and offers its citizens a complete community.
He also indicated that Milton’s young demographic and rapidly increasing population make it an ideal location for this type of development. It is believed that, as the population grows, so will residents’ demands for the ability to obtain an undergraduate degree in their own home town.
For his part, the university president feels that bringing an opportunity to pursue a post secondary education close to home will increase economic and social development, and bring prosperity to the area.
There may also be spin off advantages to the overall economy of the community; the area’s businesses – which includes printing companies – that provide support and materials to the campus may benefit.
Anyone seeking further information is invited to call or visit the town’s website.
