As the Greater Toronto area gets ready to host the 2015 Pan Am games, the city of Milton took a huge step last week in preparing for the festivities. Milton city council has approved the construction of a new velodrome, which will be used primarily as an aquatic centre when the games arrive. The city is already constructing a $170 million Olympic centre for the event.
The arrival of the Pan Am games to the Greater Toronto area will mean a large influx of tourists and the local communities are happily preparing for the traffic.
Construction projects and local advertising opportunities will be in abundance over the next two years, excellent news for printers who specialize in printing services like banner and poster printings for the upcoming games.
The city of Milton will certainly not be on its own to fund the new velodrome. The city council passed a motion to approve $3.8 million of funding towards the permanent construction. The federal and provincial governments will foot 56% of the total bill, with sponsors and fundraising making up the rest. The town’s share of sponsorship commitments and fundraising already covers the amount not funded by the province.
Final approval for the velodrome will be granted next month, great news for Milton residents. Vaughan, another community in the Greater Toronto area dropped out of the bidding to host the games and Hamilton’s bid may be unsuccessful, leaving Milton to host many events and prospective business opportunities.
