New school ready for Milton students

Some displaced Milton area students and teachers will soon have a new place to call home.

For the past two years, they have had their classes at the former E.C. Drury High school. Next week, these pupils will begin their educational career at the newly built Anne J. Mac Arthur School.

Located at 820 Farmstead drive, it will accommodate students from kindergarten to grade eight. It will feature a specialized science lab, a music room, a large gym with an electronic scoreboard and a special art and design program. There is also a large library.

One of the most appealing aspects of the school is that it will be located within walking distance of the neighborhood it serves. It is hoped that this will make it a real part of the community, and give students and parents an opportunity to partake in different activities outside of regular school hours.

For their first day in their new classrooms, the pupils will be marched into the building led by a piper. The actual grand opening festivities will take place at a later date in April.

The school was named after Anne J. MacArthur, who was a teacher for 40 years. After retiring, she went on to become the township’s first female Reeve and then its first female Mayor.

An event such as this means that materials, which have been printed with the school’s name and address, are likely to be required. A Print company can easily provide these, as well as well as other custom printed promotional items, in time for the February 18 move.
