New Public Library Opens in Milton

Patrons requiring printed resources in the Milton area now have a new venue to source their materials. A new two floor branch opened on June 7, 2011, with public, readers, staff and children present to take a peek and use the new resources. The new library, the first in the city to open in over 35 years, now features a study area, lounge, and contains over 40,000 resources, as well as a hearty fireplace for winter readers. Self-service check out options as well separate sections for private reading and even computer training are now part of the new facility.

The 30,000 square foot new location will also offer community services, such as year round pre-school drop-in program, as well as community programs like all-ages summer reading programs, the new Ride and Read Program and settlement education for newcomers to the area.

The opening of the new Milton branch was well advertised to the public through digital newsletters, social media websites and a wide variety different types of banner printing outside the facilities advertising the openings and services to the Milton public. Opening ribbon-cutting ceremonies were televised with a wide turnout from the public, library staff and Milton’s Public Library Board Chair. The new location will be the centre of summer family activities and excursions, with a variety of transit trips departing from the new location.

For printers and the general public interested in perusing the branch’s brand new selection of printed and digital databases, Books, magazines, movies, microfiches and music, the new location is 1010 Main St East.
