Miltons Strawberry Fest turns into fundraiser

The annual Strawberry Fest, a popular summer celebration in Milton, was held in a different way this year as a way to raise money for a local hospital.

The festival became a fundraiser held across a full week, embracing the popular strawberry-picking at Andrews Farm Market & Winery, where 10% of all proceeds from food items were donated. This included proceeds from pick-your-own berries, items like slushies and cookies from the on-site café, purchases of preserves and other store items, and direct donations. Money raised during past festivals has benefited MDH by allowing it to purchase new equipment and create or maintain targeted programs.

The Strawberry Festival is typically a one-day event featuring events like a pancake breakfast and on-stage musical performances, in addition to a kid’s zone featuring bouncy castles and magic shows. Events like these, often advertised through flyer printing campaigns, are popular as a way for people to reconnect to nature and the agricultural process.

This year’s event, the 40th annual, was less concentrated, but still brought in many visitors. By the end of the week, the field of strawberries was almost entirely picked over, just in time for raspberry season to start.

The 2020 edition of the Strawberry Fest Fundraiser took place between June 27 and July 5, at the Andrews Farm Market & Winery.
