Milton United Way announces ambitious fundraising goal

Milton is a city on the rise, and with growth comes an increase in the number of not-for-profit groups which seek to better the lives of its residents. One of the largest sources of funding for many in the community is the United Way.

As it unveiled details of its campaign for the coming months, the United Way revealed that this year will have its highest fundraising goal of all time - $705,300, which is almost $20,000 more than what was raised last year.

More than 100 supporters were on hand to help launch the campaign, and colorful Banners which had been created by a Print company were used to spread the word.

Some of the money that the group collects comes from business and employee donations, with a large portion coming specifically from employee payroll deductions. There are also large scale events and galas that collect large sums, with one of the biggest being the Mayor’s Gold Tournament, which last year raised $174,000.

The monies raised go to help 28 local agencies offer 48 different programs. Some of the groups which receive funding include the St. John Ambulance, Community Living North Halton, and Big Brothers and Big Sisters. A number of family resource centers also benefit and all of the money raised stays in the local area.

The current campaign will run until the end of the year, and people are encouraged to continue donating. More information can be found on the United Way’s website.
