Milton to get cash injection from province

At a recent press conference hosted by Milton City Council, the city’s public transit got some welcome news.

It was announced that the public transit system will be getting a boost of $817,371 in cash from the province’s Gas Tax program. This marks an increase of $230,000 over the last amount, which was received in 2012. Oakville and Burlington will also receive funds.

While the money has yet to be allocated, it will be used to improve public transit in some fashion. One idea is to offset some of the operating costs, which would keep the fares low for the people who use it. Another idea would be to add another route, bringing public transit to areas that are currently not serviced, or are under serviced, by the existing system. Public transit gets a lot of use in the region. The council has allocated a budget of $2.5 million dollars, and expects that it will provide 470,000 rides to its clientele. This is an increase of 19% over the same time last year.

The mass transit vehicles not only allow people to easily get from place to place; they also provide a venue for Print advertising. Posters and other promotional materials can be displayed on the buses, both inside and out. These can be prepared by a printing company, which can discus with its clientele the most suitable Forms of promotion.
